Prakrti & Purusa
A way the human mind works is by compartmentalizing translated information. An example of this practice is placing a feminine or a masculine title or tag on a word, object, structure, etc. A lot of the decision in which category to place them is measured by which one is the the supporter and which one less nurturing. The understanding of the relationship between prakrti and purusa is segmented the same way. Praktri being the 'female,' the "unitary matter," (Torella 76) is an example of how the female is commonly referred to as the bonding or the piece keeping the puzzle together in both a family and relationship setting as praktri is the connecting factor between the mind and the body -- the physical and the consciousness. Purusa on the other hand is the 'male' concept. It consists "solely of the light of the consciousness;" analogously it can be compared to how Adam followed the way of Eve. But instead of being steered wrongly, he is opened to new realizations of a new found freedom that had never been taken. It's as if the prakrti steers the purusa out of ignorance and into liberation (Torella 77).
