This week’s reading made me think about hermeneutics. The
concept of religious law, which includes ethical and moral code, reflects upon
the idea that the scripture is derived from God, the ultimate and definite and authoritative
and omnipotent source. Because such sacred text is derived a divine source, the
scripture seems to be unalterable. However this is where the concept of
hermeneutics comes in; hermeneutics helps the reader to contextualize religious
text, and progressive, evolving interpretations of these religious law provide
a variety of perspectives. This is why the relationship between the Deity and the
followers isn’t entirely one-sided. The author, Allah, might have authoritatively
wrote these religious laws, but the “readers”, the followers, hold great impact
and power to interpret the text based on their views.
