The Real Islam

Yesterday, I was stuck by how similar the Qur'an was to the the torah and to the bible. What fascinated me was the fact that today, many americans perceive islam as this archaic and barbaric religion, which glorifies war and demands for the destruction of all other religions. After the reading and yesterday's class, I came to the realization that islam, in a plethora of ways, is much like Judaism and Christianity. The belief in one god and the belief in prophets are both parts of old and and new testaments. Another major similarity is that all three religions trace their origins back to adam and abraham, showing the strong ties between the three. The thing that most struck me was that the verses of the Qur'an that I read seemed incredibly similar to the psalms and parts of the new testament. This made me realize that it is unjust to vilify the islamic religion, especially since the connections between the so-called western religions are so strong. I hope that the peoples who's ignorance keeps them from realizing the good qualities or islam can read portions of the actual Qur'an and see that islam is not this evil and archaic faith.
